On the morning of September 17, 2018, Guangdong Livestock and Poultry Germplasm Resource Bank Construction Work Conference was held in the conference room on the third floor of Wen's Building. Dean Jiang Qingyan, presided over the meeting. Jiang Qingyan introduced the preparatory work of Guangdong Livestock and Poultry Germplasm Resource Bank Construction Project regarding staffing, site planning and arrangement, project declaration, etc., and he pointed that the meeting focused on the working group and membership of Germplasm Resource Bank Construction Project, and a list of budgets for the purchase of instruments and equipment in construction funding. Professor Wu Zhenfang, Director of the National Pig Industry Technology Research Center, gave a detailed explanation of the problems that need to be discussed and resolved. All the participants conducted in-depth and heated discussions on the above issues. Professor Zhang Xiquan, Director of the Key Laboratory of Chicken Genetics Breeding and Reproduction of Ministry of Agriculture, Cai Gengyuan, researcher of National Pig Industry Technology Research Center, Professor Xie Qingmei, Associate Dean of the College of Animal Science , Outstanding Youth Professor Ren Jun, Professor Wang Wei, professor from Department Animal Genetics and Breeding, delivered speeches respectively on the conference. Teachers from National Pig Industry Project Center, Department of Animal Genetics, Department of Breeding, Department of Animal Nutrition and Feed Science , and Department of Animal Health Culture and Safety attended the conference. After discussion at the meeting, everyone agreed to establish 8 groups for the construction of Guangdong Livestock and Poultry Germplasm Resource Bank Construction Project and identify the team members, including engineering group, equipment group, systems (software) group, publicity group, academic group, data group and bidding group. The group shall agree the equipment working group to fully demonstrate according to the principle of equipment purchase, and determine the purchase list. First, on the basis of ensuring that the functions of the studios of the Germplasm Resource Bank are relatively independent, the sharing role of the original large-scale instruments and equipment of the college should be fully utilized and the repeated purchases should be avoided. Second, the equipment should be purchased according to the priority of the function. Third, some small and medium-sized equipment are provided by existing engineering centers, key laboratories at or above the provincial and departmental levels; construction of Germplasm Resource Bank should be fully supported and cooperated; online reservation and paid use systems should be applied. Secretary Wu Yatai concluded that the construction of Germplasm Resource Bank is related to the construction and development of disciplines. It is one of the third batch of projects for the special fund for provincial rural revitalization strategy in 2018---“Protection, Development and Utilization of Livestock and Poultry” Project. The project has been approved and the project construction funds have reached the university. The core content of the project’s construction task is to build a bank of livestock and poultry germplasm resources in Guangdong Province, and to fully cover and preserve the genetic material of all livestock and poultry germplasm resources in Guangdong Province. The project is of important strategic significance, and all teachers are highly valued. For the purchase of instruments and equipment, please ask the equipment team to fully consider the functional requirements of the resource bank and the needs of research and conservation. He sincerely hoped that everyone will work together to complete the tasks on time and in quality, and must complete all relevant tasks and submit a satisfactory result to the university, Provincial and Education Departments after two years. On the morning of September 18th, members of the equipment groups held a discussion meeting in Room 105. According to the established principles of the conference, the list of equipment needed for the construction of the Germplasm Resource Bank was initially discussed. The next step was to conduct inquiry and selection work. Other groups are also planning, deploying and working intensively.
